Wild and Free Lounge Pants – A Pattern Test

Little sis is checking out those cute little bunnies on her knees! Normally babies don’t often care what they wear, but these pants are the exception. This girl loves her bunny pants and I even caught her giggling at them!

These are the newly released Wild and Free lounge pants by Coffee and Thread, and aren’t they adorable! There is a large variety of things you can do with these pants, but the 3D animal ears definitely take the cake.

So here is everything the pattern has to offer:

  • Size spans from size 9-12mo to size 12 and includes extensive sizing help
  • 6 animal designs for the 3D view – dog, cat, mouse, rabbit, fox and bear
  • 7 applique designs for the “knee patch” view – star, lightning bolt, cloud, moon, flower, stars and heart
  • Plotter files for use with a Silhouette machine or other cutting device
  • Easy to follow instructions for stenciling the designs without a cutting machine
  • 3 pocket variations
  • Sewing terms glossary
  • Extensive instructions and sewing tips

If  you don’t have the coveted Silhouette Cameo machine that is becoming ever so popular with sewing enthusiasts these days, you will not feel left out with this pattern. Olga walks you through the process of cutting out the animal faces in freezer paper and applying them with fabric paint, which is what I did. But if you do have one of those awesome sewing toys, she also provides the files so you can use your fancy machine to make the vinyl designs.

Olga kept the beginner in mind with this pattern. Throughout the test she was always considering how things might be interpreted by someone who is new to sewing. So if you aren’t sure if you are ready to tackle something like this, have no fear and give it a try! You can always start with a simple no-pockets, no-designs version, then do the color blocked leg, all the way up to the full 3D ears. There really are lots of options with these pants. I loved seeing all the different versions the other testers came up with. There is so much creative talent out there! Then of course, once you get the idea down you can really do any animal design you want. I’m thinking owls, raccoons, cows, pigs…
